Leadership Starts Here

Our Cadets learn from the best. Through mentorship from Tampa Fire Rescue's firefighters and command staff, Cadets gain valuable leadership skills, confidence, and insight into what it means to serve their community.

Serving the Community

Being a Cadet means more than learning firefighting skills. Cadets participate in community events, teach fire safety, and inspire the next generation while building meaningful connections with the people they serve.

Learning the Firefighter Mindset

Putting on turnout gear is about more than wearing the uniform; it's learning responsibility, discipline, and the importance of preparation before every emergency response.

Hands-On Experience

Cadets train with real firefighting equipment under the guidance of experienced firefighters. From advancing hose lines to mastering teamwork, every drill builds confidence and prepares Cadets for the fire service.

Building Strong Teams

Challenge Yourself. Grow Every Day.

Every obstacle overcome builds confidence. The Tampa Fire Rescue Cadet Program challenges young adults to step outside their comfort zones and discover what they're capable of.

The Tampa Fire Rescue Cadets program is for young adults who aspire to become firefighters.

TFR Cadets learn basic firefighting and first responder skills alongside actual Firefighter Paramedics, gaining firsthand experience of how exciting the firefighter’s job is by observation and working side-by-side with Tampa Fire Rescue firefighters.

Young men and women between the ages of 13-17 are invited to become Fire Cadets. They wear a uniform and are provided with helmets and firefighter gearas they learn the skills required to become a firefighter and emergency responder during this year-round program.

Following an introductory period, Fire Cadets may ride along as observers to witness real emergencies unfold with community firefighters and paramedics.

Becoming a Fire Cadet is an excellent way to develop leadership qualities, learn to work in a team environment, and gain experience that will be helpful in nearly any career.
