History

Although usually called Marti Colon Cemetery, it is actually two cemeteries. Marti Cemetery, the northern portion with one small mausoleum,  was privately owned until it was sold to the City in the 1930s. Later, the City leased the property to A.P. Boza Sr., until his death and his son, A.P. Boza Jr. took over the family business.

During the lease of Marti Cemetery, Mr. Boza, Sr. purchased other parcels of property adjoining Marti Cemetery and converted them to burial plots, which is now known as Colon Cemetery. Colon Cemetery has one large and one small mausoleum on the grounds.

Throughout the years Colon Cemetery has had different owners. In May 2023, the City of Tampa purchased the parcels that make up Colon Cemetery, and therefore now owns both Marti and Colon Cemeteries.
