Ballast Point Park

Ballast Point Park is situated on the east coast of South Tampa. It features a splash pad, picnic areas, a boat ramp and much more. See stunning sunrises over the Hillsborough Bay and a view of downtown Tampa. Leons Lobstah Shack restaurant offers food, drinks, and treats. The 600-foot pier and Joe Abrahams Fitness Center are closed as of Spring 2025 because of major damage caused by hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Features

Boat Dock

The boat and boarding dock are located just north of the fishing pier. It is lined with cleats to temporarily dock your boat for free and enjoy the park.

Boat Ramp

This is a single-lane, poured-in-place concrete boat ramp with a boarding dock. There are only 4 spots for vehicles with trailers and parking spots fill up quickly. The boat ramp is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Fishing Pier

Closed as of Spring 2025 as we repair hurricane damage. The fishing pier is well lit and has plenty of space. The pier is free and open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Note that the rest of the park is open from 6 am to 8 pm. Florida Saltwater Fishing Licenses are required. Equipment rental is available from the local concessionaire.

Gazebo

The octagonal gazebo is situated in a shady spot near the playground and is ideal for special occasions. The domed roof features ornate support pillars along with wooden railings. The gazebo is unfurnished.

Joe Abrahams Fitness and Wellness Center

Closed as of Spring 2025 as we repair hurricane damage. But when it reopens, get active and stay in shape at the fitness and wellness center. Membership includes access to weight and cardiovascular equipment, as well as some classes.

Picnic Tables

Uncovered, individual picnic tables are scattered throughout Ballast Point Park and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Playground

A semi-shaded playground that features slides, bridges, and a lot of things to climb upon. It also includes a Tot Lot for younger visitors. For hotter days, the splash pad is nearby.

Shelters

Some shelters are first-come, first-served and others are available by reservation. Many feature grills and are near the playground.

Splash Pad

When it's hot, the kids can cool off at the splash pad which features colorful flowers which shoot out water. Surrounding benches offer parents a great vantage point.

Leons Lobstah Shack

If you are missing some delicious New England-style seafood, then stop by Leons Lobstah Shack while visiting the park. And if you just want a sweet treat, scoop up some ice cream.
